The CCCP Timeline exhibition @ Copenhagen Photo Festival 2010

So!? What is this Timeline thingy?

Well, it was a group exhibition by David Koji Kariyado Hansen, Amanda Thomsen, Dave Stott, Louise Felding, Mike Van Der Poel, Jesper A. Nielsen and yours truly. We constituted that period of time incarnation of the CCCP group (for Copenhagen Creative Cooperative Photography spawned out of my feeble brain in order to spend some night(s) of the week in pubs drinking beer and speaking photography, it has other meanings, don’t ask why I came up with that: alcohol, inanity and lust…) which was self-described as being “driven by love for photography and international friendship. It is more than an artistic collective. It’s all photo-lovers and geeks that inspire and feed each others to produce a personal vision of photography. They are strong individuals who share some common ideas. Their work lives on the Internet, magazines and from time to time it is exposed to the real walls.” Yesh… That…

Anyhow, we proposed the “Timeline” exhibition for the first edition of the Copenhagen Photo Festival in 2010 and here is what we said about it: ”Photography is about capturing moments and store pieces of history. It may be the global history that shows major events that affect us all, or it may be the major personal events that affect us and those who are immediately around us. Timeline is an exhibition about people in history. By portraying people from all generations and drawing a relation to the global timeline, we aim to test a sample of the population in Copenhagen in 2010 and their relation to the great common events in our lifetime.” Yesh… That as well…

The idea was to portray people and put them into a timeline by asking them a set of two questions (in addition to some demographics):

1. What is, in your opinion, the most important historical event that you happened during your life time?

2. What is the most important personal event that happened to you (and that you are ready to share with us)?

Some pictures (digicraps in my case) of the actual exhibition can be seen on flickr by looking for the keywords/tags: “CCCP, Timeline, 2010″ or something like that. Do yourself a favour and go check it out. The timeline idea is not dead and the current incarnation of the CCCP group has set up a nice website for it and are in the process of putting an exhibition of their own in Copenhagen (dates to be updated when I have them.) Many thanks to Thomas B. and Marianne K. for that! Moreover the BOP association is also working on an exhibition in Grenoble, France in september of 2012 along these lines (ahah!) so one can expect the concept to stay afloat…

So! Without further ado here is a set of the pictures I displayed in 2010 at Amanda’s Fotostudie (check the place here) amongst my friends’ submission… I included names, dates of birth and the answers to the “historical” question but not to the “personal” question. Indeed some of these answers were very, er, personal and the people portrayed may not be happy about putting it for display all over the Internet. If you happen to be one of these people portrayed here and do not want your picture shown (or want to have a digital copy for your use) please do write me an email, or a comment, and I’ll deal with it swiftly….
