Cover works for the “Labyrint” publishing company

One of the continuing activities I enjoy doing most is my collaboration within the framework of the covers for the novels published by Labyrint Forlag, a French speaking publishing company specializing in French crime novels based in Copenhagen, Denmark. Each time I read the prospective book and try to come with ideas based on my vision of the writers’ own vision. Then we discuss with the folks from Labyrint and decide on the final design. I concentrate on creating a “film noir” oriented atmosphere and also on giving Labyrint a coherent visual identity.

Here is the set of official covers for their series of novels.

And following are some test designs which didn’t make the final cut. However, I believe that some of them were actually pretty good. Sometimes it is just the same idea with different shots or framing or atmosphere, yet sometimes it is also a completely different concept (such as in the case of Zulu).

For some of the books special exhibitions were created and shown in book/coffee shops or in galleries (real ones and online), I will post more and update the list…

  • :.. Marseille Dark City: three “real world” exhibitions in a coffee shop, a library and a gallery/art center in Copenhagen and Oddense, Denmark and a virtual online exhibition now deleted.
  • :.. Zulu, Dancing Ghosts: two virtual exhibitions, one still to be seen on the BOP website (here).
  • :.. Mygale (the french name of the first translated book by Thierry Jonquet, the English one being “Tarentula”): one collaborative exhibition in Lyon, France during the showcasing of Pedro Almodovar’s “La piel que habito,” a movie inspired by the book.
